Taking splits on Apple Watch?
PaceBuzz lets you mark your own running intervals with the Crown, Slap Split or both buttons in Track and Road. Basic uses automatic distance splits. Learn which input and mode fit your session.
01 / THE DIFFERENCE IS IN YOUR FINGERS
YOUR NEXT SPLIT.
A TURN AWAY.
At speed, the right control is one you can feel. PaceBuzz makes the Digital Crown your workout control. Short turns. A simple rhythm. No hunting for a tiny on-screen button.
Use short turns, reversing direction each time. Keep your wrist raised and the display awake. Crown Practice on the watch helps you learn the rhythm.
Your split is timed from the first movement of the turn. A cooldown helps prevent an extra split.
Illustrated demo. The haptics happen on your watch.
Simple taps on the running face do nothing. Press and hold to reveal the controls. You can also enable splits with the Crown and side button pressed together.
02 / A LITTLE FEEDBACK. RIGHT ON TIME.
FEEL THE PACE.
HOLD THE LINE.
Solo reps have a rhythm, too. Set your target lap time and feel a cue for each 100m or 200m split. Choose the pattern, strength, and timing that work for you.
Try a target above. These are time-based cues for a marked track; they don’t depend on GPS finding the line.
03 / Prepare on iPhone. Run on Apple Watch.
DIAL IT IN.
THEN LINE UP.
The small details matter when the session gets serious. Set them once on your phone, and send your workout to your wrist.

04 / TRACK AT HEART. ROOM FOR THE ROAD.
SAME INTENT.
DIFFERENT TERRAIN.
Fast 400s. Longer reps. Threshold work out on the roads. Keep the Crown controls you know, with a face and pacing cues built for the session.
6 × 1000m
Rep times. Clear recoveries. A face built around the split.
Target: 3:00 per rep · Recovery: 1:308 × 3 minutes
Time or distance goals. Current and average pace. Cues to ease off or pick it up.
Target: 5:50/mi · Recovery: 1:00 at 7:30/miRoad mode adds GPS pace, a goal-progress bar, and approach cues. In Track and Road, you decide when to record a split.
FOR THE EVERYDAY RUN
JUST RUN.
Basic mode keeps time, GPS distance, heart rate, and full-run average pace in view. Mile or kilometer splits are recorded automatically, including the final partial split.
Manual and automatic GPS pauses hold time, distance, and average pace in Basic. Heart-rate collection continues. Track and Road keep the stopwatch and pacing cues running when GPS distance is held.
05 / AFTER THE LAST REP
THE WORK’S DONE.
KEEP THE DETAILS.
Illustrative data. Effort readings are entered by you.
More than the final time.
Review your splits, heart rate, cadence and distance. Add R.P.E. or a measured lactate reading from the Crown, right when the effort is fresh.

A FEW THINGS BEFORE YOU RUN
GOOD TO KNOW.
Questions, ideas, or a session that needs a different tool? Talk to Andy, the runner building PaceBuzz.
What do I need?
An iPhone with iOS 18.1 or later and an Apple Watch with watchOS 11.1 or later. Build and set up sessions on the phone, then run them on the watch.
How do I learn the Crown controls?
Open Crown Practice on your watch before heading out. One short turn takes a split. Reverse direction for each additional turn: three to undo during cooldown, four to open effort logging, five to toggle buzzes. Raise your wrist and keep the display awake.
Does the watch measure lactate?
You enter a reading from your own lactate measurement, or your perceived effort (R.P.E.), using the Crown. PaceBuzz records those values with the session. Apple Watch does not measure blood lactate.
What about privacy?
PaceBuzz keeps your recordings locally and can save workouts to Apple Health with your permission. Strava uploads and exports are your choice. For app-usage analysis, we rely on aggregate reports Apple provides. PaceBuzz’s former installation counter is retired; earlier records expire under the policy’s retention periods.
